Products to Help You Stop Snoring

Snoring happens when you have relaxed tissue in your throat and air is trying to squeeze past it which causes the tissue to vibrate and cause the snoring sound. Several factors influence how much you snore: allergies, body anatomy, and alcohol consumption all play a role in how much you snore. Snoring is fairly common and usually signifies no medical issue, however, it can be associated with an illness called sleep apnea.

Some common symptoms of sleep apnea include: morning headaches, sore throat upon awakening, high blood pressure, and gasping while sleeping. If you suspect you have sleep apnea you should consult with a doctor. There are some common products that can help with snoring:

1. Anti-snoring mouthguards

These help with preventing snoring by stopping the tissue from relaxing so much. These devices can either press your tongue down or cause your bottom jaw to move slightly forward which allows your airway to remain more open and prevent the vibration of the tissue.

2. Nose strips

These work by opening your nose up. They are placed on the outside of the nose just above each flare of the nostrils. When these open the airway it causes less air disturbance which can reduce snoring.

3. Special pillows

There are a few different kinds of pillows that can help prevent or reduce snoring in various ways. There is a pillow with a bump in the middle to prevent back sleeping which keeps the airways open better. A wedge pillow can be helpful because it elevates your head which prevents the airway from being restricted so much.

4. CPAP machines

This is a type of machine that uses positive pressure to keep airways open by consistently pushing air into your upper airway. This influx of air can also help alleviate headaches and sore throat upon awakening. There are a couple of different kinds of face masks for a CPAP Machine and depending on the kind you choose you can even get a special pillow to help support your head even more while you sleep.

5. Natural ways to reduce snoring

There are many over the counter or natural remedies that have been tried to help stop snoring. There is a sleep remedy spray that is supposed to help open up your airway and clear out any mucus which might be causing the problem. Some nasal sprays are used to open up the airways better or used to clear out mucus due to a cold. Peppermint has been used as an anti-inflammatory to open up airways due to colds by drinking it in water or placing it in a humidifier. Some other anti-inflammatory natural remedies include olive oil, nettle, turmeric, honey, and garlic.
