Symptoms of Multiple Myeloma

Cancer is categorized as one of the most dangerous diseases in the present world. Multiple myeloma is a type of cancer that affects the plasma cells, which are a vital part of the body’s white blood cell. Multiple myeloma results in accumulation of cancer cells in the bone marrow, and as a result, healthy blood cells are eliminated out of the body.

While the cause of multiple myeloma is unknown, medical experts believe it develops as a result of the formation of abnormal plasma cells. The cells then multiply rapidly, causing the spread of the disease to other organs and systems throughout the body. Just like any other disease, multiple myeloma has some telltale symptoms:

1. Weakness and fatigue
This is mainly as a result of the cancer cells accumulation in your bone marrow. It results in weakness of the bones thus, a patient may experience fatigue and general weakness. It is highly recommended you visit a doctor once you experience long term fatigue for assessment.

2. Bone pain
Bone pain mainly occurs as a result of the cancer cells penetrating the bone marrow. This leads to discomfort and sometimes bone pains. The cells also release chemicals which will alter other cells to destroy your bones. Immediately the cells have penetrated in the bone marrow, they are easily transmitted through the blood to different parts of the body.

3. Loss of appetite and weight loss
Just like when a patient is suffering from any disease, loss of appetite and weight loss is experienced. This is mainly because of the cancer affecting the patient or any side effects such as fatigue.
